Blade Profiling

Profiling your skate blades means shaping the bottom radius and edges to match your skating style, position, and ice feel. The main benefit is better control, power, and comfort on the ice compared to a generic factory profile.

Forwards often prefer deeper radii (9′–10′) for quick turns; defensemen and bigger skaters may choose flatter profiles (11′–13′) for stability and glide.

Condensed Benefits

• More efficient stride: A properly profiled blade gives you a consistent contact patch, so each push transfers more energy into forward motion instead of slipping or “chattering.”

• Improved acceleration and top speed: The right radius (e.g., 9′, 10′, 11′) balances glide and bite, letting you explode out of turns and maintain speed with fewer strides.

• Better agility and edge work: Profiling sharpens your inside and outside edges, making tight turns, crossovers, and quick direction changes more predictable and responsive.

Skate Pitch

The pitch settings (F1/F2/F3) then shift that balance point forward by the amounts above, giving a more “on your toes” feel without changing the radius curves. Although tiny angles, a noticeable shift in stance!

Options

• Neutral = baseline stance for that profile (Select this if you ONLY want a Profile)

• F1 (+ 1/64" Forwards) = slightly more “on your toes,” easier to load for acceleration

• F2 (+ 1/32" Forwards) = clearly aggressive forward lean, common for quick, explosive players

• F3 (+ 3/64" Forwards) = very forward, max “attack mode,” usually for players who live on their front foot

• Improves acceleration and first-step explosiveness

• Makes it easier to load edges for tight turns and crossovers

• Gives a more aggressive, forward stance without changing your radius or hollow

Will sharpening your blades ruin your profile or pitch? 

The E-S4 Elite Sharpening machine is the only sharpener that can read the shape of your blades and perfectly maintain your profile integrity. 
If you are getting your blade sharpened by hand, you will want to reprofile at least a few times a season.
