What "Radius / Grind / Hollow" Should I Be Using?

If you drop off your skates and you just say "Sharpen Them"... odds are you are getting a 1/2" Radius sharpen. That is considered "Standard"

The feeling of sharpness in your steel is largely determined by how deep the Radius of Hollow is. The smaller the ROH, the deeper the groove.

Heavier players may benefit from a shallower hollow (9/16" || 5/8" || 3/4" || 1") for added speed and glide, while lighter players often need a smaller hollow (7/16" || 3/8") for extra grip.

So a 3/8” hollow is going to bite more than a 1” hollow. But a 1" hollow will allow more glide.

Profile Preservation

Before sharpening, the E-S4 first scans the profile of the blade. Able to perfectly maintain the shape of the blade profile from one sharpening to the next, for the life of the blade.

The Elite E-S4 Automated Sharpener uses Siemens controllers and precision digital drives to automatically control the speed and pressure of the sharpening pass from toe to heel. Once the sharpening begins, the system detects changes in blade angle and position at every millimeter and adjusts speed and pressure to remove exactly the same amount of material along the length of the blade. In real time, the E-S4 uses sophisticated algorithms to accurately reproduce the existing blade profile throughout the sharpening process.
